Getting Started
How do I open an RPT file without Crystal Reports?
Install ViewerFX for Crystal Reports, then open the .rpt file from the ribbon or by double-clicking it in Windows. ViewerFX renders the report with full fidelity and lets you view, print, export, and email it. No Crystal Reports Designer installation is needed.
Do I need Crystal Reports installed to use ViewerFX?
No. ViewerFX is a standalone Windows application that bundles the SAP Crystal Reports runtime it needs. You can open, view, print, export, and email .rpt files on any Windows 10 or 11 PC without installing Crystal Reports.
Which Crystal Reports versions are supported?
ViewerFX opens reports created in Crystal Reports 8.5 and above. That covers reports produced by every modern Crystal Reports release.
Does ViewerFX work on Windows 11?
Yes. ViewerFX is a 64-bit application built for Windows 10 and Windows 11. The installer checks for the required prerequisites and adds them if they are missing.
Licensing & Pricing
Is there a free Crystal Reports viewer?
Yes. ViewerFX offers a Free license that lets you view, print, email, and export saved reports to PDF, Excel, Word, and RTF at no cost. Registration is required, and the license covers a single desktop computer. Every installation also starts as a 45-day trial with every feature enabled.
What is the difference between the Free and Standard licenses?
The two biggest differences are live data refresh and report parameters: Standard can open reports that require a live data-source connection, refresh report data, and enter report parameters, while Free works with saved report data. Free exports cover PDF, Excel, Word, and RTF, while Standard adds CSV, XML, HTML, text formats, and AES-encrypted ZIP. Standard is a one-time purchase of $49.95 per user and also includes favorites, run history, FTP delivery, and the Command Line Builder.
What editions and prices does ViewerFX have?
ViewerFX comes in three editions, all one-time purchases: Free ($0), Standard ($49.95 per user), and Site ($1,999.95 per location). All three are desktop editions for Windows 10 and 11.
What is the Site license?
The Site license is the Standard desktop feature set licensed for unlimited desktops and unlimited users at a single physical corporate site. It is a one-time purchase priced per location, for desktop use like Standard.
Is ViewerFX a subscription?
No. Every ViewerFX license is a one-time purchase: Standard is $49.95 per user and Site is $1,999.95 per location. There are no recurring fees.
Can I use ViewerFX on Citrix or Terminal Server?
ViewerFX is licensed for desktop use on Windows 10 and 11. It is not licensed for Citrix or Terminal Server environments. For a large desktop rollout at one location, the Site license covers unlimited desktops and users at a single physical corporate site.
Do emails sent from ViewerFX include a watermark?
Emails sent during the 45-day trial or with a Free license include a short line at the end of the message noting the report was sent via ViewerFX for Crystal Reports. Paid licenses (Standard and Site) send emails with no watermark.
Features
Can I export reports to PDF, Excel, Word, or CSV?
Yes. ViewerFX exports reports to 13 formats, including PDF, Excel, Word, RTF, CSV, XML, HTML, and text. All 13 are available when saving a report to disk, and 11 of them can also be attached to an email; the two HTML formats are save-only.
Can I email reports from the viewer?
Yes. Pick an attachment format, address the message with To, Cc, and Bcc, and send the report without leaving ViewerFX. Paid licenses can also send through your own SMTP server accounts and pick recipients from Outlook contacts.
Can I refresh report data and enter parameters?
Yes, with any paid license, or during the 45-day trial. ViewerFX can open reports that require a live data-source connection, refresh their data, and present report parameters in a clean settings dialog. The Free license works with saved report data.
Can reports be encrypted?
Yes. ViewerFX can package report exports as ZIP files with optional AES encryption, so files stay protected when stored or shared. AES-encrypted ZIP export is included with any paid license.
Technical
Where is my report data processed?
Entirely on your computer. ViewerFX is a native Windows desktop application, so your reports and the data they contain are opened and rendered locally. They never pass through our servers.
What runtime does the installer include?
The installer bundles the SAP Crystal Reports runtime 13.0.40 (x64), which renders the reports, and the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable x64 it depends on. It also adds .NET Framework 4.8 if it is missing. There is nothing else to download.
How do I get my license key?
For a Free license, register after the 45-day trial ends and your license key is sent to you by email. For a paid license, purchase Standard or Site and activate ViewerFX from within the application using the product key you receive. If you run into trouble, contact support@originsoftware.net.
